SCHOOL CURRICULUM

ACADEMICS: Our school follows the scheme of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) as a part of its Examination Reform Program. It covers every relevant aspect of a child’s personality, behaviour and performance with diverse learning situations. It respects the cardinal principle of holistic development by covering the cognitive, affective and psychomotor domains, so that the head, the heart and the hand are harmoniously developed. Thus it incorporates both scholastic and co-scholastic aspects of education. Besides the subjects like languages, social science, mathematics, science, physical and health education, work experience, art education and computer studies, a student is also assessed for life skills, attitudes and values, and participation in different co-curricular indoor activities. The academic year is divided unto two terms as follows:
First Term: April-September
Second Term: October - March
Winter Vacation: About 15 days in January
Summer Vacation: About 45 days in May, June & July
English, Hindi, Urdu, Mathematics, Science, Social Science are being taught in every class. If the performance of any student is considered highly unsatisfactory, he/she may be asked to repeat the same class. Students with poor performance and poor attendance (less than 75%) may hardly be allowed to continue.
The students are watched very keenly whether their performance is up to the mark or not. This is done by regular classroom teaching, homework, assignments, projects, activities, quizzes, class work, field trips, educational tours, tests, formative and summative assessment right from class one. Assessments are both written and oral.
NFK Blakdale Girls School prepares students in accordance with the syllabus prescribed by the CBSE from time to time and therefore we follow the CBSE Curriculum in the school. NCERT books supplemented with other publications are prescribed in all classes. Additionally, the school has ‘Smart Classes’ teaching in all the sections of the school.
Examination and Evaluation: The school based Assessment is divided into three parts:
Evaluation of Scholastic Aspects (Academic Subjects): consists of the academic performance of the student. It will be reflected in the form of grades and percentile ranks. Two terms have been suggested during a year, each term will carry two Formative and one Summative Assessments. The grading scale for scholastic domain is a nine point scale based on direct grading.
Total Formative Assessments in the Year = FA1+FA2+FA3+FA4 = 40%
Total Summative Assessments in the Year = SA1+SA2 = 60
Total of two terms in the Year = 100% (40% + 60%)
Evaluation of Co-Scholastic Aspects: It comprises of Co-scholastic areas which include “Life Skills” and “Attitudes and Values”, “Life Skills” include “thinking skills” and ‘emotional skills’ which are being assessed on a five point grading scale (i.e. A+ - 5, A – 4, B+ - 3, B – 2 & C-1). “Attitudes and values” are evaluated towards “teachers”, “school mates” “school programs” “Value system” on a three point grading scale (A+- 3, A-2 and B-1).
Evaluation of Co-Scholastic activities: Co-scholastic activities include participation in Literary and Aesthetic activities. Sub-section under this head includes Health and Physical Education. Activities that can be used for literary and creative skills include “debate”, “creative writing”, “recitation”, “drawing”, “card-making”, “spot painting”, flower arrangement etc. Science skills include projects and assignments, science quz, science exhibition, “Olympiads”, “Health and Physical Education” includes sports, yoga, etc.
RESULT: Since the intake is of mixed abilities, the results are not expected to be extremely high. In order to fulfill our aim “Education to All” we can’t be selective at the time of admission
Students’ Co-Curricular Activities: Stage acting, Dramatics, Debate, Elocution, Quiz, Painting, Arts & Crafts, Sports etc are some of the areas for the students to draw out their hidden talents and capabilities. We try our level best to give each and every student to take part in different activities and prepare them for their bright future academically and co-academically. Charts & Models i.e. display boards are fixed both in the classes as well as outside classes to show their talents in this regard.
Transport Facility: is available for the students who like to avail.
Classes arranged for weak students: To bring out the best in each child, special remedial classes are conducted for weak students after school hours if parents wish. Parent’s co-operation is a must to make it a success.
